South Park actually did a very good episode on this long before the politically correct maniacs took over places like Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, and all other aspects of popular social media. The episode is called The Death Camp Of Tolerance and there are some amazingly poignant quotes that I can take from it to help explain my point.
Look, just because you have to tolerate something doesn’t mean you have to approve of it! If you had to like it, it’d be called the acceptance! “Tolerate” means you’re just putting up with it! You tolerate a crying child sitting next to you on the airplane or, you tolerate a bad cold. It can still piss you off! Jesus Tap dancing Christ! – Mr. Garrison (quote slightly modified)
This is exactly the issue we face today despite this episode being made 16 years ago now, as it first aired in 2002. Since then, things have really only gotten worse with political correctness and of course South Park is still attacking those types of people like they always have.
The episode centers around Mr. Garrison trying to get fired for being gay. Once he finds out that another teacher was fired for being gay in another state and sued the school for millions of dollars over discrimination he wants to do the same thing. He comes into his classroom with a teaching assistant named Mr. Slave and does indeed act over the top inappropriately gay. When the boys complain about this they are sent to the Museum of Tolerance to teach them tolerance, presumably, but it seems that what they are more trying to preach is acceptance.
The thing no one seems to get any more is that these two concepts are totally different concepts. It’s perfectly fine to not accept things you don’t like. It’s perfectly fine to have your opinions no matter how politically correct or not they are. Here’s a good example.
As of late in Canada they have been pushing to make it a law that you need to address a person with the pronouns of their choice. If you do not, then it could be seen as hate speech and you could get charged with a hate crime. Typically most people (not all but most) even if they don’t agree with the transgender thing, will tolerate calling someone by a preferred pronoun. I know plenty of people who think it’s stupid or pointless but they also think that at the end of the day it’s not a big deal to just use the pronoun they are given (within reason because even I am not going to accept a crazy ass pronoun like ‘cat’ or ‘dragon’ or whatever the hell they’ve come up with). The point is that people usually don’t see it as the worst thing in the world to change pronouns if requested and tolerate those interactions with people when they have to have them.
Are there people out there who refuse to use proper pronouns for a trans person? Sure there are. Should they be written up, locked up, and kept in prison because they didn’t want to call a biological male by female pronouns? No. Absolutely not. Yet, making a law of this very nature is forcing acceptance on people. Tolerance is definitely important but once you make laws (or even attempt to make them) to enforce these things, what you are doing is forcing acceptance and this makes people want to rebel even more just out of sheer principal.
I know if they made a law like that here I’d start doing the exact opposite. Not because I’m transphobic but because a law like that completely tramples over the right to free speech. It tramples over people’s right to be rude, insulting, offensive, and say what the hell they want. It forces people to adopt mannerisms that they normally wouldn’t have to protect a group of people who make up less than .03% of the population. Why do that? At all? Not to mention the potential for the level of abuse that it could create. We are already having problems with that. Like this woman who was awarded 60 thousand dollars over a lawsuit where people wouldn’t call her by the pronoun “They” because she identified as some bullshit known as transmasculine. Even worse, they did an investigation at the school to see if this harassment was even happening, found no evidence of it, and gave her the money anyway because fuck it, can’t have the Oregon school system looking like horrible bigots now, can we? Awarding her that money is another way to force people into acceptance. It’s another way to tell people, if you don’t follow this politically correct shit, then you are in for a world of hurt either financially or criminally.
These PC radfems and SJWs need to learn, badly, that you cannot build a peaceful world when part of that world is forcing people to accept things they don’t want to accept. Society will get along far better if it is built on tolerance instead of acceptance. Instead, they don’t see it that way, get super upset when you compare them to nazis (even though that’s exactly what they are doing) and throw whiny ass tantrums known as “protests” in order to further their nazi-like agenda. I don’t know what’s worse, that we have a shit ton of people who actually think this way, or that our own government and law makers are starting to side with them.
